Hijack Halloween culminated in the Fire and Feast event at Bevendean Community Garden on 28 October 2018, but in the weeks leading up to this event we ran 3 days of workshops at Komedia, workshops at Bevendean Primary, the Bevy and with Moulsecoomb Primary at Moulsecoomb Forest Garden.

Halloween started as a celebration to see people through the long winter.  People told fortunes, shared fires, remembered loved ones and welcomed the spirits and fairies who visited their homes on the day when harvest ended and winter began.

Using these origins of Halloween as inspiration Hijack commissioned artist Davina Drummond to create a Tool Kit which provides families with ideas and materials needed for an alternative Halloween. The workshops were centred around the activities in the Hijack Halloween Tool Kit and for The Fire and Feast event we joined Fernee Forest Club in the garden at dusk to make lanterns, share soul cakes, taste some foraged tea and sing around the fire.

Hijack Halloween was conceived on behalf of Kids at Komedia and created with Davina Drummond. It was supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and Brighton & Hove City Council.
